first of all i get this error when trying tologin to squirrelmail

ERROR
Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost.
111 : Connection refused

plus when using outlook it dont download messages or sent, it connects ok and saays recieving but messags arent there but when i use webmail they are!

Either IMAP isn't running or you've managed to firewall it off, even from localhost.

Jeff

everything else works fine, basically its a fresh server with direct admin installed the Os is fedora 4

I have a fresh install as well, and I get the same problem

Im not to bothered about it thoe as I run pop3

pop3 can also be a pain in the ass, its fine recieving emails its just sending them its slow and always times out!

POP3 has nothing to do with sending email; please do not spread FUD on the forums.

Thanks.

Jeff

How can I tell if IMAP is running? I am getting the same error on a fresh install of DA on Fedora 4....

Email is working fine otherwise just not through squirrelmail.

Thanks,
Phil

Ok, Telnet is no go!

"[root@server1 ~]# telnet localhost 143
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused
"

What do I need to do to start the service?

Thanks,
Phil

Is imap run as a daemon on your system?

Or is it setup under /etc/xinetd.conf or in the /etc/xinetd.d directory?

Jeff

Look in the imap file in the xinetd.d directory...

Find the line with disable in it.

Does it say disable = yes or disble = no?

It needs to be no.

If you change it be sure to restart the xinetd daemon.

Jeff

Sorry for this whole thing, it turns out that xinetd was not installed.

It has been installed with:

yum install xinetd

All is fine now...

Thanks for your help.

Phil

# yum install xinetd
# /sbin/service xinetd start

All done and works. Thanx :)
