The problem with TMDA is the Challenge/Response part of it.
The problem with Challenge/Response is that it means the first time you get an email from anyone you write them back and ask if they're real.
Since you'll be getting hundreds to thousands of emails a day, with forged sender addresses, all from spammers, and since you'll write back to all these forged sender addresses (most of which are real), you'll become a spammer yourself.
Using TMDA will probably get your server on a blocklist within hours to days.
SORBS, in particular, has no tolerance for TMDA as an excuse, and will charge you money to remove you from their blocklists.
