Hey guys and gals,

im thinking about getting a virtual server but at first kinda just doing research into what works and what dont etc...

Would I still be able to use my owned licence of direct admin on a VDS or will i need another form of special licence?

thanks in advance.

flumps.

Special notice for VPS/VDS installs:
After the install, add:

ethernet_dev=eth0:devicename

to /usr/local/directadmin/conf/directadmin.conf.

Replace devicename with the FULL devicename reported by ifconfig. If your VDS/VPS system emulates eth0, then you may skip this step.

that file doesnt exsist or its not in that location on my VDS :( - by i think my VDS system emulates eth0 anyway as I checked ifconfig etc.

[root@tornado ~]# /sbin/service httpd restart
Stopping httpd: [FAILED]
Starting httpd: [Thu Feb 28 12:45:14 2008] [warn] module php5_module is already loaded, skipping
httpd: Syntax error on line 143 of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf: Syntax error on line 21 of /etc/httpd/conf/extra/httpd-vhosts.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/httpd/conf/ips.conf: No such file or directory

http wont start I get that failed error :(

Restarting ProFTPd.
Shutting down proftpd: [FAILED]
Starting proftpd: - no such group 'nogroup'
- Fatal: Group: Unknown group 'nogroup' on line 27 of '/etc/proftpd.conf'
[FAILED]

proftpd wont start either.

any ideas peeps, the above I get when trying to install DA on my VDS.

edit: I also noticed it didnt ask me for an admin password which is odd... i swear the last time i installed DA on a dedicated box it asked for admin password...or told me what it set it too...

What OS, using customapache or custombuild?

Are you sure your installation was completed?

My suggestion :

CentOS is the best platform for DA.
Your DA license OS build should match with your server (VPS) OS.
Always run DA installed as root user.
Custombuild is a better option and quite stable now.

flumps, try:
Code:
cd /usr/local/directadmin/custombuild
./build update
./build all d

I think its finished its install...I get:

*************************************
* *
* All parts have been installed *
* *
*************************************

Type: /sbin/service httpd restart
cp: `/var/www/html/squirrelmail/data' and `/var/www/html/squirrelmail-1.4.13/data' are the same file
./install.sh: line 223: ./directadmin: cannot execute binary file
./install.sh: line 226: ./directadmin: cannot execute binary file

any ideas?

OS i am using on the VDS is: ES 4.1

it now just ends on...

root@tornado:

when i type the above to start httpd it wont start. I get the same error as posted above...grrr why is it so hard to setup direct admin on a vds i might just say sod it and go back and install it on my debian dedicated server.
