Hey,

Got a Debian server with DA and I'm unable to send mail from DA (ie. welcome mail for new users) to any external email addresses. Only email addresses hosted on the local server is sent and received.

Have added diradmin: :blackhole: in /etc/aliases

Message from DA GUI said:

The welcome email(s) has successfully been resent.

Hi tsiou! Thanks for the reply.

I have indeed changed the server's hostname, NS1 and NS2 under "Administrator Settings" in DA, however after I did that no mail could be sent to external mail users at all, only from mailbox to mailbox localy.

With custom settings:

Server's Hostname: server1.aim.no
NS1: ns1.server1.aim.no
NS1: ns2.server1.aim.no

2008-07-24 04:30:07 1KLygm-0004xA-PH == [email protected] R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp defer (-44): SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<[email protected]>: host mx.online.no [193.213.115.10]: 451 4.3.2 Please try again later
2008-07-24 04:54:36 1KLzP2-00051i-7T <= [email protected] H=localhost (poco.no) [127.0.0.1] P=xxxxxx A=login:[email protected] S=xxx [email protected] T="test" from <[email protected]> for [email protected]
2008-07-24 04:54:40 1KLzP2-00051i-7T == [email protected] R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp defer (-44): SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:<[email protected]>: host mx.online.no [193.213.115.10]: 451 4.3.2 Please try again later

With current settings:

Server's Hostname: HWC001.local
NS1: ns1.HWC001.local
NS1: ns2.HWC001.local

2008-07-24 04:59:08 1KLygm-0004xA-PH => [email protected] F=<[email protected]> R=lookuphost T=remote_smtp S=725 H=mx.online.no [193.213.115.10] C="250 2.0.0 m6OAxbR6013862 Message accepted for delivery"

This is not right...
Check this things :

1. setup as i told you in the post above.
2. go to admin dns administration and check that server1.aim.no exists.
3. click on it and see if the ns records point to your ns ns1.server1.aim.no, ns2.server1.aim.no and that in the list there are 2 A records like : ns1.server1.aim.no A yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy(your server ip2) and one for ns2 .server1.aim.no A zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz(your server ip3)
4. be sure that /etc/HOSTNAME has a server1.aim.no and not a HWC001.local line
5. You should have 3 ips, one for your server, one for ns1 hostname and one for ns2
6. You have to contact your ip provider and told them to add 3 reverse dns records to their dns : xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is server1.aim.no, yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy is ns1.server1.aim.no and zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz is ns2.server1.aim.no because many mail server dont accept emails from servers without reverse dns entries.

That should do
