Its like its trying to install on a redhat system

Cannot find /etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date... up2date may break things.

Cannot find /usr/local/bin/php
Please recompile php with custombuild, eg:
cd /usr/local/directadmin/custombuild
./build all d

Also the cron issue where it fails to install, and asks you to install vixie-cron , which is not a package in the debian repositories

I do wonder what else is missing/broken or not installed.

Should these issues not be resolved if its an officially supported operating system.

Make sure that you have a Debian DA license, and not RedHat/CentOS/Fedora.

No one has the right to sell you a DirectAdmin license except DirectAdmin. You may not have a valid license. You should contact DirectAdmin Sales.

just wondering now so all hosts that offer dedicated servers with DA preinstalled are fonyes or what?

It all depends on what conditions DA have given the company that has the internal licensing account.

Generally the provider can offer you a license to use with there products & services but they will always own it. The provider can charge you a one off fee or monthly etc... or even not at all, but when you cancel there services the license stays with the provider.
