spamd connection failed

Hi,

Many many months i have the problem that after some hours (sometimes some days) the mailserver is not working anymore (timeout).

Now i find the problem.

When i restart spamassassin everything works fine again!

Now i looked in the log (/var/log/exim/paniclog) and i see there:

warning - spamd connection to 127.0.0.1, port 783 failed: Connection timed out
all spamd servers failed


I see that serveral times (every 3 seconds, sometime 2 sometime 4 or 5).

Does anyone know how to fix this?

We've seen it happen from time to time in heavy-load scenarios. What we've done on some of our servers is removed the startup code for SpamAssassin from rc.local and added both startup and shutdown code for SpamAssassin to the appropriate system startup/shutdown file for exim (may differ according to OS Distribution).

Then you can build a script that checks exim periodically and in case of timeout will restart exim.

Or manually restart exim from your DirectAdmin login.

And if you've modified the script properly it should restart both exim and SpamAssassin.
