Change MX record only for main domain

Hi,
I have subdomain, and I want to change the MX records only for the main domain.

Example:
My domain is: domain.com.
I also have subdomain: mail.domain.com.
I want domain.com will have different MX records (will not use DirectAdmin to receive and send) and mail.domain.com will use DirectAdmin.

Is it possible?

You mean you needed to create your subdomain as a new totally separate domain. Yes then you can define different MX records.
