Hey everybody.

From the search and from google i have not found a page within this domain that confirms that the latest stabile version of DA do support 5.3.3 or not. I would love a strait answer from a team member or a link to official da page.

My server managing company says its not posible to get php 5.3.3 since da does not support it or any php 5.3.X

BUT i saw a annoncement in here introducing php 5.3.x to the da users so i guess it is supported. Or is it ?

Im not sure what you mean by "Know enough?" its not mentioned in my post.

I can produce that output as well, from my non da debian vps. But i NEED official proof to convince the guys who service my server. Anybody got any links ?

If you're server management company needs proof to learn that PHP 5.3 is supported, that would be kind of stupid because it's here and in the options.conf for crying out loud.

If you need it done, PM me.

Thanks for your reply. From that post you linked to.Read #48 and up. It actually confirms that php 5.3.x is not supported officially by da. It can work, but its not supported and your on your own.

You can install PHP 5.3 any way you want that works on the server. If you do, then (a) many scripts on the server, including squirrelmail and others) won't work, and (b) you won't any longer be using DirectAdmin update methods, so you're on your own for updates using customapache until DirectAdmin has the udate in place.

My guess is that it would be best to delete the server. reinstall centos 5.5 or debian. update all software to latest and THEN install da. At the moment i have centos 5.3 so alot other software would have to updated. to me it seems like a world or troubles waiting you unless you have done a cetons 5.3 with da update to latest software before and my managing company have not. They would be as blind as a new user. Not sure what to do.

If you look at the last page, you'll see it is supported. I recently did a upgrade to PHP 5.3 and it went flawlessly, there was one Joomla installation which threw an error but at the update to the last Joomla version it all worked and that client is now working flawlessly on 5.3

My post was written a year ago. In the computer industry lots of things change in a year. When it's available in the standard (non-beta) version of CustomBuild, it's supported.

To reinstall a server already running CentOS 5.3 to move it to 5.5 seems a bit of a stretch. If your management company is suggesting that, then they may not know anything about how CentOS upgrades work. Are you running yum update from time to time, either automatically or manually? You should be.

A management company that takes on responsibility for managing a CentOS server should either know CentOS well enough to not need a testbed server, or have one available to do testing; for example, we qualify on both counts.

And certainly wiping the server and reinstalling it wouldn't change the version of PHP you're using; that's a setting in the CustomBuild configuration file.

But that all said, I take no responsibility for anything you do on your server; if you want my guarantee you hire me.

Jeff,

I could not agree with you more, somehow I think the server management company the TS uses does not know enough about CentOS. For example, an upgrade to 5.5 can just be done using the CentOS package manager, yum.

We specialise in DA + CentOS server management solutions, and have already rolled out 5.3 (as mentioned before). Please do not hesitate to ask if you've got any more questions becuase the upgrade is just possible and isn't such a big deal.

As you may realize, Manasging DirectAdmin servers is our main business and our main source of income. We tend to be very conservative, though; our interest is in servers that just run for our clients.

That said, I'm finishing up three yum update updates to CentOS 5.5 tonight.

Missing supported php versions officially listed, like 5.3

Take a look at this page: http://www.directadmin.com/install.html

You will find that you have a choice which php version to install: 4.4 or 5.2

It would be very nice to have a third choice 5.3. Or say on the same page that 5.3 is officially supported by DirectAdmin. Many hosters will not install 5.3 because it's nowhere written that DA officially supports 5.3. My suggestion is or having a third install choice or list on the same install page that 5.3 is supported but for now not installed on a clean install of DA.

Erybody knows 5.3 is going to replace 5.2 sometime. Lets speed things up and give the hoster the choice to install 5.3 or list it's save to install 5.3 because it's supported. What do you think?

The same for MySQL 5.1.

4.1 and 5.0 is the choice. Give the hoster a third choice 5.1 or list it's officially supported by DA but not installed by default on a clean install.

How to use PHP 5.3?

Hello,

I'm trying to setup a DirectAdmin environment using PHP 5.3 instead of 5.2.17 (I believe 17 is the last version in 5.2), but I can't find an option to use 5.3. I tried re-creating the options.conf file, but it doesn't offer PHP 5.3.

How to use PHP 5.3?

Thanks!
