RedHat 6.5 is now released. Here is the press release: http://www.redhat.com/about/news/pr...-latest-version-of-red-hat-enterprise-linux-6 and here you can see all the updates: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rhel-server-6-errata.html - Among those update, there is a new kernel with important security updates: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2013-1645.html

Now we only need to wait for a day or two, and the new version/updates will be available from CentOS too: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ :)

I hope to see improvement in the Apache SSL, i.e. chiper suite selection.

in RHEL 6.5 , the OpenSSL (openssl-1.0.1e-16.el6_5.x86_64) is now rebased to the 1.0.1e upstream version

yeah I want to wait until I have kvm hooked up (or I remember to set aside 1 ip and enable ipmi) before I do it in case of a kernel panic.
me and panics seem to get along well, they always visit me when least expected, real nice guys.... :p

Last week I updated centos 6.4 with yum update. Apparently it updated to 6.5.
After rebooting the VPS, the VPS went dead. Luckily the VPS seller repaired the problems because the VPS is managed.

Problem 1: The dead VPS was caused by routes that where overwritten.
Problem 2: Directadmin would not start after the VPS was up again. ./directadmin Unable to read the license file reason: Unable to read the version of the license

Now I'm hesitating to update a dedicated server and an other VPS which are unmanaged and run Directadmin.
I'm afraid I can't solve those problems if they arise. :(

Any advice?

fwiw it went well for me.
I first did the DA update, then had to edit on httpd conf file for some reason. ran a day and it was all good and survived reboots ok.
then I did the 6.5 update, that also went ok and survived reboot.
I did make sure to do it at a time when I would have access to a kvm.

We had two machines update successfully to CentOS 6.5 on December 2nd, and have one new one we updated manually yesterday. No problem on all three.

Well both just updated fine!
First updated DA and rebooted. Checked correct workings.
Then a yum update and rebooted. (update from CENTOS 6.4 to 6.5)

Just in case I copied a newly created backup to another server if something went wrong and I needed to install everything from scratch. But the precaution was not needed for me.
