Should DirectAdmin Forums switch to XenForo?

    Why not?

I've been thinking and as a result perhaps I'm just the first to say out loud what we've all been thinking, eh?

Then I think you shouldn't wait any longer.

No why. I don't like for example the way of pm's being "conversations" with XF. You could just as well switch to SMF of PHPBB or IBPro or something else if one would want to change.
I like the old VBulletin. With a new style (which is coming), it's still great.

I'm more curious about the "why".
    Greetings, Richard.

    Hello,

I wonder the same, why should it be XenForo? What I'd like to see on the forums is a button "Thank for a post", with a list of users who clicked on it.

Never used XenForo by the way.

Yes indeed. A "Thank for a psot" or "Like this answer" or something similar would be more something people can benefit from then another forum software.
    Agree on that with Alex.

Directadmin forum is doing everything good with this forum cms, there is no reason to move to Xenforo forum cms, although I admit that Xenforo is a good forum cms now.
An important thing is directadmin forum is using non friendly url and there are tons of links shared on posts here. If changing to Xenforo, it can lose a bit more traffic coming from search engines as Google or Bing.

Loose traffic from Google or Bing? Not a good idea. I often prefer Google to find topic's on this forum above the forum's own search function.
I don't understand why one would have less traffic from Google.
And the url... doesn't make that much difference. It might be a good idea to maken the forums https-only maybe. You'll lose some traffic then too by losing the double links to the same thread.
    Greetings, Richard.

I agree with @Richard G, I also use Google a lot to find content here, so it's best not to change URLs. However it would be nice if the forum was https only, with a redirect from http.

Another thing is that when visiting front page of directadmin.com, in the menu the "Forum" is linked to with regular http, and because the forum does not have a redirect, I often have to change to https manually when coming here from directadmin.com - maybe someone could send a email to DirectAdmin about that?

By the way, I wish everyone in the community Happy Holidays!

HTTPS should be the standard indeed, it's weird that HTTP is not redirected when HTTPS is supported. I also get weird certificate errors (not trusted) when I visit the HTTPS forum when coming from Google

I see the same thing when clicking on links in Google to sub pages in the forum. It seems to be because Google is indexing https://www.forum.directadmin.com/subpage but the certificate is not valid for the www version: www.forum.directadmin - without www. in front, the certifikate is valid.

The certificate is a wildcard *.directadmin.com - but I guess it does not support sub.sub.domain, but only sub.domain.

Also in Google the front page is indexed without https and www, so that one works fine, and only some of the sub pages in the forum is indexed with https://www , while other is indexed with plain http

The solution is for DirectAdmin to change the forum to be without www, and to redirect to the version without www, and also to redirect from http to https.

Discourse is which I was recommended but I used Xenforo for my new smartphone forum. Discourse is pretty simple and lack of features like vB or XF did.
