Hello,

I hope somebody can help me with the following. I just tried to make my website http into a https and followed all steps that I red were necessary. When I now try to reach my website I get the following: upload a new index.html to your private_html folder. I already created a symbolic link from the public_html to the private_html directory.

Can anybody help me further? My website is www.verbindwerk.nl

Thanks a lot in advance.

Loes

[FONT=Open Sans, sans-serif]Looks like the symlink is not working, did you made the symlink at Domain Setuo?

You should usw "Use a symbolic link from private_html to public_html".

Login with the user in Directadmin, click on Domain Administration, then click on the domain name and finally check "Use a symbolic link from private_html to public_html - allows for same data in http and https" and save.

The subpages of your site all seem to work fine already under https, and also jump nicely to https when tried to visit through http.
Did you update the base URL in Wordpress properly?

I think this is the main problem, to update the base URL in Worldpress. I need to upload this HTML-verificatiebestand [googlec35c8cfe1fd88f00.html] to my website. But I haven't managed with the instructions so far. All methods to do this don't work out...

I thought I copy pasted this 'Use a symbolic link from private_html to public_html - allows for same data in http and https'' but I read the opposite in my first question. So for clarity: my DirectAdmin part is ok I think. It's the wordpress base URL I guess.

Under 'Settings -> General' of your Wordpress Admin/dashboard, make sure you have filled in your site's address with the https in the "WordPress Address (URL)" field.
I also always have the same URL filled in at the "Site Address (URL)"-field just below that.

I'm not quite sure yet if that's your real issue because I think the subpages shouldn't be working either if that's filled in wrong.

The Google-verificationfile is not relevant to this problem. This is only to let Google know you have actual control of the domain.
You can upload this file to the root of your domain with an FTP-program, or through your DirectAdmin file-manager.

@Loes: follow instructions that @wattie posted to get it working.
