Invalid Subdomain name, Can every folder be a subdomain?

Hello,
I'm trying to create my subdomain,

sub_domain.mysite.com

DA says it can't create that subdomain because the name is invalid. I assume it doesn't like the underscore character.

In Ensim, I had a folder named sub_domain.mysite.com and that worked fine...

In DA, if I simly make a folder called sub_domain will I be able to get http://sub_domain.mysite.com to redirect to it??

I can't test it yet, b/c my new site IP has not yet resolved.

Underscores and spaces are not permitted in domain names

It may be possible to overide so that it results in what you want, but I'm not sure about the integrity of it.

In Ensim, i had subdomain redirects that worked with underscores in it.

Is there a way to put in an .htacess file if someone goes to http://sub_domain.mysite.com to go to

http://www.cnn.com for example?

I don't need it to be a "reael" subdomain, just a redirect
