Hello fellow DirectAdmin Users,

BSDTechTalk is seeking qualified applicants to act as Community Specialists.

What are Community Specialists?

Community Specialists are akin to Forum Specific Moderators. As a Community Specialists, you would lead the Forum in meaningful discussion. You would close threads that needed closing. And warn members that needed warning.

We are looking for Community Specialists for the following forum topics:
- DirectAdmin
and other areas

Visit us at bsdtechtalk.com for further information in regards to applications.

We wish to create a third party DirectAdmin support area with lots of actvity (all for free via forums). Being a personal DirectAdmin fan I will also be helping out myself with the Administration needs of DA+FreeBSD with any questions users might have.

These are non-paying, volunteer positions.

A non-biased attitude, as well as having experience on the subject for at least one year, is required.

Thank you for helping make BSDTechTalk a better place for all and we hope that we can have another BSD specialist or two from here join our ranks to help with DirectAdmin and BSD administration altogether.

I feel the same way about this as I feel about the dutch DA support forum.

I still believe that we lose a lot when we start fragmenting where people have to look for help.

I'm willing to redesign the forum layout here so we can have better FreeBSD coverage if folk would write in with suggestions.

While I fully agree with you jlasman that there should be one official forum, I also believe that there is also a good upside to having more than one area for support. Looking at other CPs...well they have many places and tutorials to go to. Of course DA SHOULD ALWAYS be the main area to obtain support but for quick questions that any administrator can answer then I think other support areas can help. Personally I feel that the BSD community here can benefit from having an area that isn't split into 2 parts (why is 5.x STILL in beta anyway?) and that they can come and ask questions. The success of BSD is the ease to be able to find information on the internet by just doing a search. My personal feeling is that the BSD community does not have any stable CP besides DA and even so a second area is always a great place to share your administration and tutorials. I think that by not having only one centralized place people can benefit and find more useful information (I never just to to the BSD Handbook for information I go to different sources after all).

Of course we will have a link stickied for DirectAdmin on our forums stating that we highly recommend that they visit these forums for official support. We also feel that DA should be our official BSD Approved Control Panel because simply put it works just that good with BSD.

Also I have placed the sticky allready on there:

Please tell me how you feel the DA forums here should be arranged, and I'll do my best to make them work for you and other FreeBSD DA users.

well I already suggested this but freebsd 5.x should no longer be marked as beta, if anything I would say DA has more 5.x users now then 4.x since 5.x is now well established and 6.x is soon to be stable.

Then add a beta 6.x forum.

And what was suggested a while ago by many users in general streamline these forums so its less cluttered there are a few where that arent needed and can be posted in other forum's, I can be a mod on this forum if need help organising posts.

As for bsdtechtalk I had a look and I see it is brand new, whilst I could be a mod there I probably wont be checking it very often so could prove inactive.

What is and isn't beta must be determined by DA staff, but I can certainly rearrange the forums to match.

According to this page, DA runs on these operating systems:
Redhat Linux 7.2, 7.3, 8.0, 9.0.
RedHat Fedora 1.0, 2.0, 3.0
RedHat Enterprise 2.1, 3.x, 4.x
FreeBSD 4.7, 4.8, 4.9, 4.10, 4.11, 5.0, 5.1, 5.2, 5.2.1, 5.3, 5.4
and according to this page, FreeBSD 5.x currently in beta.

I'll bring this post to John and Mark's attention, and then we can make the forums match what they consider fully supported vs what they consider beta.

I'll be able to rearrange the forums for FreeBSD versions of DA once we hear from DA staff exactly what we should have.
