Pamd or Proftpd Username too long

Hi. I am having a problem with one customer logging in and then I get this over and over in the logs

Nov 12 07:29:06 matrix proftpd[81864]: matrix.mydomain.com (24.95.63.XX[24.95.63.XX]) - PAM([email protected]): Name exceeds maximum login length (17)

Any clue how to fix this? I am thinking its a pamd issue because I cant find anything on proftpd about username length.

Let me know if anyone has a clue how to increase the value.

What OS distribution are you using?

Linux/unix login name lengths are a function of the distribution. I think PAM has to be rebuilt to change it; I don't know if a kernel change is necessary.

Some googling might be helpful.
