problem with php and the database

My php never quite work... and I have tried so many times.
I wonder if it has to do with the SQL database username, etc I created.
If it does what do I have to change in my guestbook script?

(my php always appears to be error 404)

No matter what content it holds php, html etc it should not give a 404. A 404 means the page could not be found - nothing else.

Check that you have the file in the correct folder, also ensure that PHP has been enabled for your account, if not you will need to contact your host to have that enabled.
