Hi,

Now we are making backups on reseller base with the DA feature.

We are migrating to the VMWARE Server (now for free! : www.vmware.com).

There is only one (big) problem with the free vmware server solution: you can't take live snapshots, instead virtual machine should be turn off before taking an snaphot (= hd image of that virtual server).

So we are looking for a client backup solution.
Virtual machines have ext3 partitions.
We need to could take full backups when the server is still live 24/7. Backup up files is not an option, should be a full bare-metal on cluster based backup.

I have found one open source (and free) solution: www.mondorescue.org.

A commercial solution : Acronis TrueImage Linux Server (http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/products/ATISLin/)

Anyone can give me some advise what's the best solution? I prefere mondorescue because it's free, acronis is expensive (699$/server).

Other backup software?

Reason for live hd images is simple: if a (virtual) server crashes, it's very easy and fast (it takes only a copple of minutes) to start a new virtual machine on another server and restore that hd image into it.
