What OS Distribution are you using?

Was BIND (the Berkeley Internet Name Daemon) installed from source, by DirectAdmin, or as an OS package?

There is no such version as BIND 5.1. The latest stable version is 9.4.2 and the latest beta version is 9.5.0b1. (Although i would'nt suggest to use beta software in production)

Dauser2007 may have meant he's using either RHEL or CentOS version 5.

In that case, if BIND is installed from RPMs, then all you do is a yum update; the version numbers won't change because both RHEL and CentOS are managed distributions, but the sub-version numbers will change as the features are added.

Or you can remove the RPM install, and install BIND manually from source. If you decide to go that route, be sure to save EVERYTHING DNS related (in /etc/, /var/named/, and in /etc/sysconfig/, and perhaps in other directories as well, as removing the RPM may destroy your entire DNS system. We do NOT recommend removing your RPM-based DNS system.
