Hi,

Have a wierd one here , directadmin is or primary and sencondary dns and is hosting the records for our primary domain. aztec-net.com ,there is also many other domains hosted on the server.

we have a seperate smtp/pop3 server for our primary domain on a seperate ip.

now the problem, users on the other domains can not send to the aztec-net.com domain, because it appears that exim does not look up the mx records and assumes that aztec-net.com is local. is there a way to force exim to either follow the mx or recognize that aztec-net.com is not local.

Any ideas

Quote from John in previous thread:
Make sure:
1) the hostname is in the /etc/virtual/domains file
2) the hostname is *not* in the /etc/virtual/domainowners file
3) the directory /etc/virtual/server.hostname.com exists, but it is empty.
4) the hostname resolves.

Hello,

Any domain that does not have it's mail hosted on the DA machine needs to have it's domain name removed from the /etc/virtual/domains file. Exim does a lookup there first, so if the domain isn't there, then exim will do an MX lookup and will send the mail off to the correct server.

Hello,

It's correct, but the "hostname" and "domain" are not the same thing. The hostname is the name of your machine, generally server.domain.com , which the domain would just be domain.com. The hostname must be setup correct under all circumstances as described in existenz's post. The domain however will depend on what you're doing, in your case, if you want mail to leave, just remove the domain from the domainonwers file :)
