I was thinking of stress testing my server with a program called Apache ab but my server people said I cannot with DA installed.

I guess that by installing apache2-utils something would get broken.

So beware. I guess this would apply throughout the distros with DA installed and not just Debian Etch 4.0

Some packages will try to install dependencies which could break DirectAdmin, since DirectAdmin uses it's own installation of many programs.

Not anything guaranteeable.

If you're running CentOS you can look into yum.conf, and check to see the stuff you should NOT update (exclude list). Don't install anything on that list, or with dependencies, until you've checked to see if the installation will break DirectAdmin.
