I am planning to get a dedicated with FreeBSD4.9-RELEASE, DA, Installatron.
From what I have read in these forums DA and FreeBSD should work like a charm.

If you do not agree, please post here.

Now I have questions:

1)
On the DA Website one can read: DA will use mysql 4.0.16

If I look through the ports http://www.freebsd.org/ports they tell me:
4.9-RELEASE comes with mysql 4.0.15
Could this become a problem?

2)
If I would like to add another software will I be able to do it using /stand/sysinstall?

Please enlighten me

FreeBSD and DA have been working flawlessly for me so far

DA uses mysql binaries downloaded directly from the Mysql website and does not use it as a port. DA also installs 4.0.14 on freebsd even though it says 4.0.16 in the "what will be installed" section. There is an upgrade script in the Versions Update forum

For your other question, it depends on what software you want to install. Usually you'll either have to compile it, use FreeBSD binaries or use the package tool.

thanks for the reply,

what version of FreeBSD are you using.

I would like to use 4.9-RELEASE
Do you recommend to upgrade to 4.9-STABLE?

I have two harddrives - each 80 GB

how would you partition it if you want to use the second harddrives for backups.

thanks in advance for your suggestions

I use 4.9-realease and just stay up to date with the latest release branch using the freebsd up2date tutorial (found in "new server checklist")

As for partitioning I have given up on trying to make seperate partionts for /var etc since in my experiences I haven't had any advantages to keeping them seperate.
Personally I would just set aside 2x your ram for your swap and the rest of the space to /

Its really up to you and everybody has their own personal preferences so...
:p
