dns TTL, what is it set to?

TTL in the db files are set to 0, with the time for each entry set to 14400. This can be changed by copying:
/usr/local/directadmin/data/templates/named.db
into the custom directory (...templates/custom/named.db), then make any changes you need. Any files in the cutom direcotry will take priority over the ones in the templates directory.

Which is 4 hours right?

That seems reasonable. That a common time or how did you decide upon that?

We chose 14400 because it seems to be a common time (e.g. do a Google search).

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the reply, but I have another question, why do you put the time beside each entry. I have never seen that before and just did some searching around and can't see any other references to id, so I'm wonder why you are doing it?

That just the way I've always done it. With that method you can set different values for each entry, so you can do stuff like making nameservers keep a closer eye on its value (if you lower it) before you are going to do a domain transfer, or things like that. It's not really required, but gives a little bit more flexibiliy.

But you can't really change them on a one on one basis anyways can you? Is that a well supported feature of dns?
