Is it better to buy a CPU and motherboard separately or in a combo pack? I looking to upgrade my computer and do not know if I should buy a CPU mother board combo pack or buy them seperatly. Any tips on what model/make to get of each?

Regarding to your problem, better way is always have separated components, so, mobo+cpu+video (if not needed a nice video for games but a normal for normal office work so an on-board video card is ok also).

For our office we buy the cheap servers we can get at Frys, with linux already installed, for our users. That way we know we've got servers which will run with Linux.

For myself, however, I build out my own system. I do buy a mb/cpu combo, because the price is better and because I'm assured a good match. I buy a machine with built-in video to which I can also add a video card, so I can have two (DVI) monitors if I decide to go that route.
