Just completed all basic steps to complete the OSCOMMERCE installation.

http://granite-tile.info/granite/

Seems everything working fine, both user & admin.

However, when I try a 2checkout order confirmation and checkout; the following errors prompted after the transfer from oscommerce to 2checkout

Error: Credit cards numbers passed over an insecure channel. Please alert seller immediately

-----------------
background
- I am on my own new dedicated server.
- I haven't applied any SSL cert yet! Is this the problem?
- Just a young small home business. Any way not to pay for a SSL, but resolve the above error? SSL cert is just a proof to visitor, but not applying could still means I could set the site secure. right?
- I suppose I haven't configed a secure site properly. What's the procedure?
- Should I simply remove everything from public_html and reinstall the oscommerce under private_html. that's it? or install full set on both directory? any synchornization problem?
- If I just install under private_html, what would happen if visitor just type in the domain without entering https:// ?
- If possible, please kindly point me to step by step procedure; for I am a technical dummy with almost no SSH knowledge. Yet, I have the SSH root access.

Any idea? my sincere thanks in advance

You can't send the credit card info to 2checkout without some kind of encryption.

That's probably up to 2checkout, and is probably happening correctly, though you should probably write to support at 2checkout to verify.

My guess from the error message is that you're going to get that error every time you enter a credit card number over an unprotected connection.

Have you tried entering your own self-issued cert for the domain?
