Hi,

I am wondering if its safe to update the kernel using up2date or if I should do it some other way. Im currently running RH 8 and kernel 2.4.20-20.8

Firstly, the kernel is way passed its-update-by date..... and is over 10months old.. the most recent on up2date will be 2.4.20-28.7. The latest "official" kernel is 2.4.26 (in the 2.4 version)

I advise you to either sign up for something such as progeny, fedora legacy (kernel: http://www.fedoralegacy.org/updates/RH8.0/) or learn to manually compile a kernel...

if you use lilo, ensure you execute it before rebooting the system, no matter what method you use.

Chris
