My hosting service is in the process of changing data centers and I have had to move my site to the new one. With that said, I am having problems updating the new DNS. The problem is actually my lack of knowlege and experience. In my DNS settings the NS1 and NS2 are already the same as what was provided to me as the updated NS1 and NS2. The IP's are different though. Do I add the updated NS1 and NS2 IP's that were provided to me via the NS entry space in the DNS settings? I see no where else to add them. If this is even correct. I looked at the site helper for dir admin but I'm having a problem applying that to what I need to do. Can someone please give me a hand? :)

Hey,

Probably be a good idea to let us know the domain you're working on here...

Reason being is that we can look to see just what the root servers/ns servers are dishing out for resolution on the domain... Makes it a lot easier.

That said, if the name servers are related to your domain (domain.com and name server is ns1.domain.com, sorta like that) then you will probably have to change the IPs associated with your name servers at the registrar where your domain is registered (as you said you have new IPs).

Let us know the domain and probably the NEW IPs associated with the name servers...

Thanks for the help Dave, I have to admit, I'm a little bit lost.

The domain is:

http://www.ljmyerscompany.com

The new IP's are:

NS1 IP: 198.87.87.50
NS2 IP: 198.87.87.51

These are the updated IP's forwarded to me via email from my host.

My site is hosted at HostPC.com if that helps any.

Sincere Thanks,
Lana

Hey,

OK, it looks like your best bet is to post your question here:

http://www.hostpc.com/forums/

as that is hostpc.com's forums and there are probably others going through the same thing you are...

We can really only guess about the IP numbering changes related to your move...

If you look here:

http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/lookup.ch?name=ljmyerscompany.com&type=A

you'll see your current (old?) DNS server and site IPs. Looks like they just might all be on the same server...

(Yes, they don't match the name servers on the whois lookup below, which is kinda weird.)

Your domain name registration whois shows:

NS3A.HOSTPC.COM 63.247.79.146
NS3B.HOSTPC.COM 64.246.19.214

and those IPs might have to be changed as well (hostpc.com folks would know about that)...

So.... That's why it's best to contact the folks at hostpc.com about your move!

That help any?

David

Thanks Dave. I will get on it in the a.m. and also post my questions at hostpc forums. Thanks for the time and effort. It is much appreciated.
