Ok just built a new server, and da_admin didn't seem to exist in the mysql user database, and root's password for mysql was still "blank".

I set root password to what is in setup.txt and then did the GRANT entries found in another thread to create da_admin and set the password, that's fine now and I can connect to mysql via command line and the control panel can create databases fine.

Users can also connect via command line. But no one, root, da_admin, users, no one, can login via phpmyadmin.

Any ideas?

Can you create/delete/manage databases through DA? If so then the configuration for phpmyadmin is not correct or one of the users and privileges it requires is missing. Such as the one that has access to the mysql table to find out who has access etc.

Yes I was able to add/remove databases and even access them from command line (mysql -u<user> -p<password> <database>) just fine just not phpmyadmin.

Ok, so it does work through DirectAdmin. What does your phpmyadmin.inc.php file look like. You might even want to attach it. This is most likely the problem if it works through DA and command line.

I compared the config.inc.php to another server and they looked identical at least the portions about auth type that area. Didn't look through the WHOLE thing of course :)

Ok it's long but here it is:

Code:
[root@www68 root]# cat /var/www/html/phpMyAdmin-2.5.6/config.inc.php

Same as mine. SO..... I don't have enough knowledge of the way DA was supposed to setup or how DA even gets it to work

One thing that you can try and probably won't hurt anything.
Be sure to make backups if you actually have importante user data etc.

Remove phpMyAdmin from /var/www/html directory
Remove /home/mysql directory
Remove mysql link and actual mysql directory from /usr/local

Try reinstalling mysql and phpmyadmin with the DA installation script. They are found in /usr/local/directadmin/scripts/mysql.sh and /usr/local/directadmin/scripts/phpMyAdmin.sh

I've never done this before but theoretically it should reinstall them both to working order like a fresh install, but if you do decide to go ahead with it I can't be liable for anything that happens ;)

Gary,

We'd probably all appreciate it if for the future you consider that there's a difference between "attach" and "include".

Many of us didn't need to see that long post; it would have been nicer if you'd attached it. :)

Thanks!

Jeff

Hello,

Just for info, da_admin passwd could be find here:

/usr/local/directadmin/conf/mysql.conf

Regards

We had the same problem.
We changed the MySQL hostname from localhost to 127.0.0.1 and it worked !

I don't understand what is the difference between localhost and 127.0.0.1 but it maked our phpmyadmin work :)

I posted the difference, as MySQL sees it, in another thread a few days ago.

Jeff
