MySQL crash WTF

I have a problem with MySQL. Everytime my server goes down and restarts MySQL does NOT restart. The onlyway to get MySQL running again is by restarting the machine with a reboot.

I contacted my dedicated server provider hivelocity and they said its DA's problem since it is DA's software that installed it.

What is wrong.

DirectAdmin 1.22.4
Exim 4.24
MySQL 4.0.16
Named 9.2.1
ProFTPd 1.2.9
sshd

on redhat 9

Is MySQL setup to be restarted by DA?

The cconfig file is /usr/local/directadmin/data/admin/services.list

i located my boot log and noticed a line that said "mysqld tried to locate server.innerearaudio.com.pid in /var/blah/blah

But it is there!!!!!! WTF

i just upgrades to the lates version of MySQL so i guess i will wait for the next server crash to find out if it is still screwed up! unless anyone has some more thoughts on this.
