Hello,

DirectAdmin 1.42.1 has been released.
This is a minor bugfix version.

Bugfix:
Rotation of the email usage bytes files was not working correctly causing the email counts to be incorrect.
http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=1392

Minor features:

Check within the directadmin binaries, trigged by Admin login to ensure that the task.queue is being processed.
http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=1393

Characters in a "path" can now be values 128-255, meaning the full UTF-8 characterset should work if that encoding is used.

Similar to the release of 1.42.0, the FreeBSD 6 binaries are dropped, as the FreeBSD 7 binaries work for both 7 and 6.
As well, CentOS 3 binaries will be replaced by the CentOS 4 binaries.

FreeBSD 6.x is all EOL and no one should be using it anymore. FreeBSD 7.4 should be the oldest version that anyone should be on unless they want to remain insecure.

More information about the supported versions of FreeBSD is listed here: http://www.freebsd.org/security/#sup

Unsupported versions of FreeBSD is listed here: http://www.freebsd.org/security/#unsup

Unsupported means you will get no security fixes, so if there is an exploit released you are on your own.

Did somebody update on FreeBSD 6? I still have an old server which will be absolute in a couple of month and I don't want to risk anything

Update Problems?

Perhaps it's an isolated issue for me, but when the update downloads it's 45 bytes and fails? Anyone else get this issue?

It's probably not an update, but an error message which ends up in the file. Either cat the file, or open it in an editor, to see what it means.

Hello,

45 bytes means it's one or more of:
- wrong IP
- wrong UID or LID
- license is not active

Send an emails to sales@ with your license info and we can check it out for you.

New admin backups fail

Two days ago we updated one of our servers to DirectAdmin verson 1.42.1. About an hour ago I tried creating a one-time only admin level offsite backup of the server.

It failed; the error was that ncftpls couldn't connect to the server.

I don't think it makes any difference, but the server is running CentOS 4.9.

Some searching led me to the problem; the update to version 4.21.1 replaced previous scripts used in the backup with new ones; the old scripts didn't use ncftpls.

Some checking other servers' backups led me to the probable conclusion that saved cron-driven backups on other servers seem to continue to work even after the update to version 4.21.1, but that new now backups don't. I don't know if new cron-driven backups work or not; I didn't try them. And I don't know with certainty of the old ones work; they appear to on other servers, but on this particular server, backups Friday night failed.

My fast workaround for the problem was to make copies of the new scripts in case I need them later, and to rewrite the old ones (handily saved by the update to a suffix of .old) over the new ones.

Then the newly created now backup started. It'll know in a few hours whether they complete or not.

Hello,

There are some issues with the checking script, which should be addressed in 1.43.0:
http://directadmin.com/features.php?id=1399

The main issue was when a relative path is used (which doesn't start with a leading / character)
Try using the absolute disk path on the remote server, eg: /home/user/backup/path
and not just a path relative to where the ftp account's working directory start at.

If the problem persists, try updating to the pre-release binaries.
Failing that, send us an email.

The pre-check can be disabled, if needed:
http://directadmin.com/features.php?id=1386
But of course, if there are any issues, we'd like to resolve them.

Just wondering....
There are some issues with the checking script, which should be addressed in 1.43.0
So 1.43.0 is already spoken about.

In some other threads I read that something else would be change in 1.42.2 which is not released yet.
Will 1.42.2 be released or will this be skipped and the bugfixes and featuers integrated in 1.43.0?
If 1.42.2 will be released, is there an insight in about approximately when it will be released?

Due to the number of changes, we've just skipped the numbering.
Any discussion of 1.42.2 is now renamed to 1.43.0.
