Poor John is going to have to release it all over again....

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

I have just put Exim release 4.54 on the primary ftp site:

ftp://ftp.csx.cam.ac.uk/pub/software/email/exim/exim4/exim-4.54.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.csx.cam.ac.uk/pub/software/email/exim/exim4/exim-4.54.tar.bz2

- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This release contains a small number of fixes.

As usual, all changes are in the doc/ChangeLog. See also the README.UPDATING file for changes that might impact on some installations. The number of changes is so small that it is possible to quote the ChangeLog in full here:

PH/01 The ${base62: operator adjusted itself to base 36 when BASE_62 was
set to 36 (for Darwin and Cygwin), but the ${base62d: operator did not.
It now does.

PH/02 Two minor problems detected in Cygwin: the os.{c,h} files had lost */ on
the CVS lines, and there was a missing #if HAVE_IPV6 in host.c.

PH/03 Typo: missing ".o" in src/pcre/Makefile.

PH/04 Tighten up "personal" tests: Instead of testing for any "List-"
header line, restrict the check to what is listed in RFCs 2369 and 2929.
Also, for "Auto-Submitted", treat anything other than "no" as
non-personal, in accordance with RFC 3834. (Previously it treated
anything starting "auto-" as non-personal.)

TF/01 The control=submission/name=... option had a problem with syntax
errors if the name included a slash character. The /name= option
now slurps the rest of the string, so it can include any characters
but it must come last in the list of options (after /sender_retain
or /domain=).

PH/05 Some modifications to the interface to the fake nameserver for the new
testing suite.

PLEASE NOTE change TF/01 if you are using the /name= option of "control = submission". Make sure your configuration has it last.

The manual has NOT been updated for this release. However, the versions of spec.txt and filter.txt and the exim.8 man page that are included in the doc directory have been generated via the new mechanism that uses DocBook XML as an intermediate standard format. The contents of these files should be unchanged from 4.50, but the layout and formatting is different. Please report any typos or formatting problems.
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The primary ftp server is in Cambridge, England. There is a list of mirrors in:

The .bz2 versions of these tarbundles are also available.

The HTML documentation contains the FAQ and configuration samples. These are also available separately in HTML or txt format from the ftp site:

ftp://ftp.csx.cam.ac.uk/pub/software/email/exim/exim4/FAQ-html.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.csx.cam.ac.uk/pub/software/email/exim/exim4/FAQ.txt.gz

ftp://ftp.csx.cam.ac.uk/pub/software/email/exim/ChangeLogs/ChangeLog-4.54.gz

Documentation for new features that have not yet been included in the manual is available in the NewStuff file in the distribution. Individual NewStuff files are also available on the ftp site, the current one being:

John has informed me the following are already available.

exim src rpm, and compiled binaries for freebsd 4.x,5.x and debian.

On a FedoraCore2 server, we encountered this error:

+ exit 0
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
file /etc/aliases from install of da_exim-4.54-1 conflicts with file from package setup-2.5.33-1

It installed flawlessly on all other servers (RH9 and CentOS) - just flunked out on this one.

Can it be forced?

Also, for those that haven't upgraded because you're just not quite sure HOW to, here's a script that gets run in the BASH shell:

wget http://files.directadmin.com/services/da_exim-4.54-1.src.rpm
rpm -ivh da_exim-4.54-1.src.rpm
cd /usr/src/redhat/SPECS
rpmbuild -bb exim.spec
cd /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386
rpm -Uvh da_exim-4.54-1.i386.rpm

Save that text to eximupgrade.sh, CHMOD 755 eximupgrade.sh then run it, as root, in the directory you made it in like this:

./eximupgrade.sh

Restart Exim when you're done:
/etc/init.d/exim restart

The above commands, just for those curious or learning, retrieve (wget) the latest source RPMs from Directadmin, then use the RPMBUILD function of Linux to compile a version that'll work on your system - and finally (RPM-Uvh) installs the RPM it just made.

(Why -Uvh?
-U is to signify an upgrade
-v is to display routine progress messages
-h is simply a formatting option (Print 50 hash marks as the package archive is unpacked - such as:
Preparing... ########################################### [100%])

Simple, eh? :)

I get this error
error: Failed dependencies:
libcrypto.so.0.9.8 is needed by da_exim-4.54-1
libssl.so.0.9.8 is needed by da_exim-4.54-1

i have these files:
/usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8

OpenSSH_4.2p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8 05 Jul 2005

is the rpm looking for them somewhere else?
or maybe I still have some of the old versions installed.

thanks for any thoughts on what to do.

just use --force --nodeps on the command line.

Worked fine for me. :)

ok I will try that. Wanted to see if it caused any problems.
Glad it works.

Thanks

Did you use the force method to this? we have the same error.

Thnx,

Could this be harmful?

I have done a --force --nodeps, no problems.

I have also ensured I have:
/usr/lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8
/usr/lib/libssl.so.0.9.8

These two files are "generated" after openssl 0.9.8 upgrade

Search this forum for openssl 0.9.8 upgrade

Perfect Works, CentOS 4.1.

Cheers,
Jeffery

Hi,

All those problems with Fedora Core 2 and Fedora Core 3 are solved? Because the rpm's are no i386 rpm but a src.rpm.

Are there gonna be i386 rpm's?

tnx!

Dennis

rpm will be made after rpmbuild

src should compat any version of rh based system. (as far as i know.) ;)

wget http://files.directadmin.com/servic...-4.54-1.src.rpm
rpm -ivh da_exim-4.54-1.src.rpm
cd /usr/src/redhat/SPECS
rpmbuild -bb exim.spec
cd /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386
rpm -Uvh da_exim-4.54-1.i386.rpm

Yup was very simple but I, too, got:

file /etc/aliases from install of da_exim-4.54-1 conflicts with file from package setup-2.5.33-1

So use --force --nodeps??? Does that mean:

rpm -Uvh --force --nodeps da_exim-4.54-1.i386.rpm

or am I missing something here?
