Hello guys,

i was trying to install debian 5.0 on 2 dell 6650 with 4 processor and 8gb of ram each..

i got an issue on the kernel installation ...

Everything is installed ... kernel : 2.6.26-2-686-bigmem

but still i don't know why, it doesn't see 8giga of ram and the 4 processors...

as ram, debian see just 256mb and as CPU it see 8CPU monocore instead than 4CPU monocore ...

Anybody got the same problem or have some tips?

The processors are 32bit

Thanks in advance

maybe you need to install an SMP kernel
Hello,

thanks for fast answer.

The linux Debian 5.0.8 is already compiled with SMP, i tried to install an older image :2.6.26.1 after the .2 cause i was thinking that was a kernel version issue, but is not ...

2.6.26-1-686-bigmem #1 SMP Fri Mar 13 18:52:29 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux

other tips?

Syslog :
Feb 1 20:34:44 kernel: [ 0.000000] 0MB HIGHMEM available.
Feb 1 20:34:44 kernel: [ 0.000000] 255MB LOWMEM available.

...

could you please post the result of free -m?

about the 8cpu monocore, maybe, should be the Intel VT Technology that show you double core of real.

For example on mine DELL R610 With 2x 6core CPU and VT Tech on i see 24CPU's ;)

Solved, pratically i didn't check one thing during the start up of the computer :
Available memory limited to 256MB!

It means that on BIOS there is activated OS Install Mode, that must be disabled to see all the ram.

Thanks however :)
