Updating GnuPG

from looking at your post that is your rkhunter output

most flavours of Linux backport fixes (patch them)

so if yo have ran yum or up2date then you have the latest version

i dont even know what that is. I mean im fairly new to linux, and even more to the console. I'm learning as i go on this

Your system is probably heavily out of date and could be open to attacks.

run the command
Code:
yum update

and post if you have any troubles.

yum is how you keep your machine patched

go to mirror.centos.org

ann downlown yum it or may be allready installed on your machine you just never used it

make sure exclude the directamin packages

current centos is 4.4 you are a few updates behind

doesn't DA automatically update the yum exclude list on install? I don't have centos so i'm not sure where to check that (best guess is /etc/yum.conf)

Soon as i have root back ill try it. Contacted server comapny for weeks i have had remote root disabled, changed the ssh port from get go, updated firewall config, and i ssh in with a user/pass i made then su - to root.

Neither of my passwords are working.....wtf

No.

There are pots in these forums that explain what you need to do.

Jeff

You can check the /var/log/yum.log file to see what's been updated by yum.

The most recent version of CentOS 4 is 4.4, and the most recent update of yum is (from my log):

Aug 06 05:32:01 Updated: gnupg.i386 1.2.6-6

We run yum update automatically every night.

Jeff

Sorry to jump on this old thread but in updating gnupg [was a month or two back so cant quite remember which method i used - preumably using yum tho] my rkhunter report shows this:

- GnuPG 1.2.6 [ Old or patched version ]
- GnuPG 1.4.6 [ OK ]

Any ideas how i remove the old version etc?

Regards
Nath.
