difference between clamav and mailscanner?

ClamAV is an antivirus solution. MailScanner passes email to an antivirus solution such as ClamAV. You don't need to use MailScanner with DirectAdmin (though some of us do) because exim.conf can pass all incoming emails through ClamAV without the use of MailScanner.
