I am thinking about having my hosting company wiping my dedicated bare metal server clean and installing Centos and DirectAdmin.

They can install the current versions: CentOS-7 (1810) and DirectAdmin Version 1.55 (12/07/18).

Is installing the current versions a good idea or is there a better combination of Centos and DA versions?

Thanks!

You should always run the newest version available, and you should also continuously update to newer versions available.

CentOS 7 v.1810 is the latest CentOS 7.6 version, and DirectAdmin 1.55 is the latest DirectAdmin version.

Hello,

If you have Debian/Ubuntu on your server with KVM/XEN/LXC/LXD container with CentOS, you won't need to wipe your server in order to upgrade OS.

Debian/Ubuntu can easily be upgraded from one version to another, while in order to upgrade CentOS 7 to 8 (or whichever will be released later) you will create another VM and migrate only users data without wiping your dedicated server.
