Authorisation required

Hi,

I just tried to send an e-mail using Outlook and it returned to me saying that the message was undeliverable using any of my e-mail accounts.

When I checked the exim mainlog I saw:

2005-11-11 17:12:24 H=[hostname] (NewYork) [IP] F=<[email protected]> rejected RCPT <[email protected]>: authentication required

(username & IP blacked out).


Does anybody know what triggered it? Because I tried sending a test message and that one got delivered...

You need to setup outlook to use your username and password for the smtp connection (sending mail).

As far as I know, both Outlook and OE try send and then try receive.

So the first send will fail unless you're authenticating by password; you can't use SMTP after POP authentication unless you do the POP first.
