Hi,

Will I be able to run DA on a 512Mb server. I see on the DA system requirements it suggests 1Gb at least but does anyone have it running on 512mb server?

Hello,

Thought it might be possible to run DA on a 512Mb server, you might need to tweak a lot your settings.

The best configuration (how I see it) to fit into 512Mb RAM would be to use NGINX+PHP-FPM+MySQL 5.1 (Custombuild 2.0), no SpamAssassin.

Thanks Alex, I don't fancy doing a lot of tweaking as I am not a full on server admin so perhaps worth resizing the server to 1Gb and satisfy the minimum DA now suggests?

Looking at running suPHP or mod_ruid2 which I guess adds to resource requirements.

In my practice MySQL eats much RAM, and Apache specially if it's used alone. If to use Apache with NGINX as a reverse proxy then it will save RAM.

One of the servers under my administration (it's a KVM based VPS: Apache 2.2+NGINX+suPHP+MySQL 5.5) runs about 70 web-sites (PHP+MySQL) and it had 1Gb RAM until recent upgrade (VPS provider updated hosting packages and allowed more RAM).

Average usage of RAM by application was about 220-400Mb, maximum was about 800Mb.

So with 1Gb of RAM you might still need tunning. Of course it depends on PHP applications you are going to use there and traffic of your sites.
