Downgrade Nightmare ... and now DA won't start!

After a few months running this server, optimizing became inminent. So I went here to read about how to do it.

Then, I searched each step in this forum, so I'd follow the DA-way ..

1- the my.cnf went fine
2- Turck MMCache was no biggie

But then, I read that downgrading to Apache 1.3 would be a good idea ... so I followed the DA Guide:
http://help.directadmin.com/item.php?id=54

That's when my problems started. After the install was finished and I tried restarting apache. Then an error in ips.conf, about the SuexecUserGroup

After a while reading about it in this forum (and google), I rebooted the box.

After the reboot, the error was now in the httpd.conf file .. still about the SuexecUserGroup

I read a little (http://www.directadmin.com/features.php?id=441)
and I figure that changing the Suexec line will help, so I do this:

(ips.conf)
User admin
Group admin
#SuexecUserGroup admin admin

(httpd.conf)
User user
Group user
#SuexecUserGroup user user

And it worked!! My site was back online, apache restarted and everything was fine at last. Except for Directadmin. Now, the domain:2222 address won't resolve.

I give up! The site is up and I'm off to sleep. Maybe tomorrow I will solve the issue about DA not resolving ..

any ideas?

**edit:
I tried this too:
mv /usr/local/directadmin/dataskq /usr/local/directadmin/dataskq.stop
/etc/rc.d/init.d/directadmin stop
/usr/local/directadmin/directadmin d
mv /usr/local/directadmin/dataskq.stop /usr/local/directadmin/dataskq

Is it a DNS problem?
so your domein isn't resolving to an ip address?
or is your directadmin daemon not running?

I woke up today and the site was down (I run this server only for one site www.bacanalnica.com )

I think I messed up apache good!

I'm going to use the apache custom build system .. starting now!

I don't see apache. Oh yea, and Email is down too.

well .. I lost all hope. Tried reinstalling apache 2. And nothing. Everytime I try to restart (or stop) directadmin it says [FAILED].

Apache seems to be working ok, but nothing will work. Seems as if dns were down.

try the following:

Startup 2 SSH sessions to the server
in the first type
# tail -f /var/log/messages

Keep your eye on this while you execute commands in the 2nd SSH session...

In the 2nd session type

# service named start
# service httpd start
# service directadmin start

Post the output in the /var/logs/messages file here if you still have problems that you cannot solve.

Onno Vrijburg

Either no servces at all are running, or something is firewalling off everything.

I found the IP# of the server; it's listed for ns1 at the gtld-servers.

A traceroute ends here:

globalcompass.ge2-1.br01.atl01.pccwbtn.net (63.216.31.134)

Unless that's the address of your immeidate upstream router, then for some reason you're being blocked from the 'net.

Or you've taken the server down for a complete rebuild.
