Im in the process of changing colo providers, i have done the reseller backup and have restored all my sites, now i would like to transfer my dns server over.

I currently have ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com all running on the DA server. The reseller backup transfered the zones and i created the needed reverse lookup zones myself.

However DNS still resolves to the old server and if i stop the old server completly dns doesnt resolve at all. I have waited for it to propagate and still nothing happens. Do i need to do something with SOA records to make the new server authoritive? Im not sure what else to try.

Thanks.

Hello,

Dns servers are really anything more than 2 "A" records for ns1 and ns2 to make the resolves. The main thing is to make sure that you've told youre registrar to use that server to do the lookup for ns1/ns2.

So.. if you're changing servers/IPs, then you'll need to update your namservers are your registrar to point to the new server.

well i have renamed our old server ns3 and ns4.mydomain.com and on the new server named the server ns1 and ns2.

I havnt looked at our registar info. (Dont have the password and the guy who does is away), i assumed that if the nameservers listed in the registar was ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com that everything would work out. Do you also list ips of the dns server in your registar account, if so thats why its not working yet.

Its a real pain not being able to see one today

Edit: Just got logged in and sure enough the registar has ns1.mydomain.com and ns2.mydomain.com pointed correctly, i can ping ns1.mydomain.com and it resolved to my new server, but domains themselves are still going to the old server :(

Dnsreport.com says i have mismatched glue records, i assume i just need to wait for things to propagate?
