Sub Domain redirection

Hi All,

After reading quite a few of the posts, and a post for mail.domain.com redirection, I need a little clarification.

In Da I can do Site Redirections, where I can go from /ipb for instance to forum.example.com -now- that is great, but how can I do it the reverse way for instance:

http://forum.zer0day.com to http://www.zer0day.com/ipb

And then show the screen to the user as the http://forum.zer0day.com, this might be acheivable by CNAME me thinks?

All a cname record can do is point both urls to the same IP#. It cannot redirect to a subdirectory structure, and it cannot give any "hints" to apache as to what to do with the packets once they get to the system.

To do what you want, I'd create a new subdomain, and then change the site httpd.conf file to redirect it to "ipb" instead of to the default "forum".

Hi jlasman,

I created the subdomain on the front enduser logon screen, went and found the httpd.conf file, done a quick grep to find the following:


[root@web ptholt]# grep forum.zer0day.com httpd.conf
ServerName www.forum.zer0day.com
ServerAlias www.forum.zer0day.com forum.zer0day.com
ServerName www.forum.zer0day.com
ServerAlias www.forum.zer0day.com forum.zer0day.com

Out of this what do I change then?
