Is there a reason why all of the mail A records for domains are not setup to point to the main server ip by default? Doing this does not cause the annoying warnings with dnsreport.com . Is there a reason why this shouldn't be done? If there isn't, is the anyway to automatically this to a new account?

What warnings are you getting? I don't have my mail A records set to the main server ip and I don't get any warnings regarding that.

This is very common.

WARNING: One or more of your mailservers is claiming to be a host other than what it really is (the SMTP greeting should be a 3-digit code, followed by a space or a dash, then the host name). If your mailserver sends out E-mail using this domain in its EHLO or HELO, your E-mail might get blocked by anti-spam software. This is also a technical violation of RFC821 4.3 (and RFC2821 4.3.1). Note that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting should have an A record pointing back to the same server. Note that this one test may use a cached DNS record.

mail.ipm-amicus.com claims to be host tp.web-host-servers.com [but that host is at 67.19.154.196 (may be cached), not 67.19.154.201].

It's the second listing in the "Mail" section. It's called "Mail server host name in greeting"

To answer your question you can always change what the default is in the custom templates section in /usr/local/directadmin/data/templates Copy /usr/local/directadmin/data/dns_a.conf into /usr/local/directadmin/data/templates and then edit it to your liking.

Does anyone object to doing this way. Can anyone make a compelling argument against it?
