Hi Guys,
I have found something strange going on in DA (Direct Admin)!!

I normally use Dreamweaver or LiquidFX when I do updates on sites. However, when I do a simple text update I sometimes edit a webpage using the DA file manager, however Direct Admin seems to be inserting unusual characters within the text.

I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary!
This is how I'm doing it:

1) I login and go to: DA ==> File Manager ==> public_html
2) I then do a simple text update on a page
3) I click "Save"
4) When I go and view the web page on the net, it has allot of unusual characters all throughout the text.

This is the text it places in the coding:
–

It is very random. It doesn’t do it all the time. I just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem or if it's a bug in this version of DA?

Thanks

Yup, its strange alright :(

Weird. Is the file saved in ascii or binary when you upload it.

Thanks for the reply.

Well I'm using the DA File Manager so I'm not sure! (The text only shows up in DA, it's fine in Dreamweaver).

The thing is, I can see – when I look at the coding in the DA file manager but when I click save and view the webpage online, I can't see it...

Your right, It's strange

By the way, here's an example of the page:
As you will see it looks fine.
Even the coding looks fine.
But if you try to edit this page in DA it has all these special characters (–) all over the page.

Thanks

The DirectAdmin file manager is obviously using a different character encoding scheme than Dreamweaver. Is there a pattern as to where the characters are showing up? Can you show an example.

Since you're not uploading using the File Manager, it shouldn't matter, but just so you (and others reading this) know, the DirectAdmin File Manager uploads in binary. I'm not sure how Dreamweaver uploads; is it uploading in FTP? If so, do settings allow you to choose?

(Not that I think it matters; the site source code looks fine when I view it in my browser.)

Must be my PC...

Hi guys,
It has me stumped...

However, it's not a problem because (like you say) when i upload it the webpage looks fine and the symbols aren’t there  so I'm sure it's nothing to do with DA and it has something to do with my PC, so sorry to waste your time guys.

Thanks for your help anyway :)
