100% disk full when backing up

Hi,

I tried to do a full system backup yesterday and i woke up this morning with the server crashed with 100% disk full which caused a few problems with databases and all sorts.

I thought i had the "Incremental file-by-file backup" box checked but maybe i didn't. Am i right in thinking if I have that box checked then I shouldn't need much free local disk space and that 20% free space should be plenty ? or am i miss understanding that feature ?

I am trying to backup to a remote server.

Or do they mean file by file as in complete backup by complete backup ?

ignore this, i decided to use rsnapshot instead.
