(-17): error in filter file [Solution]

In case anyone else comes across this...

On a fresh DA install, I was getting the following error in my mail log:

(-17): error in filter file: failed to expand "clit$" in filter file: $ not followed by letter, digit, or {

Tuns out I had a spam filter which ended in $. Removed the dollar sign, saved the filter, restarted exim, and processed the mail que - problem solved.
