550 "Unknown User" error?

Hello,

I have a mail problem, users can't send mails to there addresses. They get the following error:

<[email protected]>: host mail.domain.nl[xx.xx.xxx.x] said: 550 "Unknown
User" (in reply to RCPT TO command)

Now i have checked everything and i don't understand why this is happening. Also squirrelmail gives an error like: Unknown user or password incorrect.

And i know for sure that the username and password are 100% correct.

So anyone any ideas?

Not the whole log .

Of course, martexx, you point out rather well that knothje hasn't given us near enough information to help. And I don't think the relevant log snippets are going to tell us any more than the posted error.

Usually this is a problem where mail is hosted off the server and for some reason is being pointed to the server. If this is the case, the MX record page needs to be addressed by the site owner user (in order for the user to see the page the admin must have turned on DNS for that user).

Or it could be a case of a conversion from mbox to Maildir gone awry. Or a corrupted exim.conf file.

knothje, are you still having the problem, or has it been resolved?
