I have an idea to suggest DA to add in "Lock" feature.

it is different from suspend.

when a user suspend, the account will not able to access include the website.

if "Lock" fuction, it will be lock for the DirectAdmin account, FTP, etc. But website still able to access.

This can use for those client who overdue the bill. Like this can avoid client who overdue the bill more then 1 month and ignore to pay the bill, after that migrate the website to other company. this will cause a hosting company lose 1 month to host for them.

Very good idea. Maybe someone will write a plugin for that. I'm newbie in those things, but I could use a plugin like that ;)

I still don't know what the request is. Why would want the web site accessible if they have not paid?

I think this is pointless. You are basically going to give someone free website hosting but they cant login.

this function is use for those client who want to postpone their payment.

let said a buyer 1st JAN 2008 expired. but he request to allow the payment at 7th JAN 2008. to avoid the user transfer his data to other provider at 6th Jan 2008, we can lock his website.

Because if we suspend directly their website, client is not happy with his.

so i suggest to allow the website viewable but client unable to modify his data.

Hmm... I am not fulling understanding the point of this either. We do have the option to suspend at limit or not. If you choose to allow the user to exceed the limit you can charge an "over the limit fee" or something. Or you can offer the suspension at the limit... per user. Also, the user should receive an email before the limit is reached.

I don't understand the value of offering free hosting and yet not letting them login. I wouldn't want to hold the customers files hostage for payment.

I think I know what he means

I think he means if a client is due on the 1st of the month and say they don't get paid till the 6th and they are a bit short on cash for the hosting fee till then and ask for the site not to be turned off on the 1st as they will pay on the 6th, he wants it so that the site is still up however they cant login to FTP or directadmin until they pay

not quite sure how it could be done, might be easier to just change the password?

yeah it is, but how can I know what password does my user have? :)

yes....finally somebody get what i mean.....:)

that is what i suggested.

if we direct suspend a client website, it may affect our company image.

Well, if you reset the password, also change it so that he can't reset it again...

If you change the password he cannot reset it again.

If you want to be able to reset it to the same value save the relevant line in /etc/passwd.

But we don't; we just give him a new password when he pays.

Another advantage of changing the password rather than suspend the account is this way you can still write him if his email address is at his domain.

You must be nice I dont let my clients postpone payments.

How exactly are you changing the password? If it do it in directadmin it sends out the new one via email to the user... unless obviously I change that email address...

Also, on the DA login page there is a link for "forgot your password"

I don't recall our systems sending a changed password via email unless I change the password from the "send welcome email" link. If I do it from the change-password link from the admin login it doesn't. At least that's always been my experience.

I'm running the latest version of DirectAdmin and I don't have a "forgot your password" link on my DirectAdmin login pages. Are you using a third party skin or login screen?

Jeff

I am using the regular "enhanced" skin... the option for the "forgot your password" to be displayed on the page is located at:

admin level:

Administrator Settings
5th box from bottom --> Enable Automatic Lost Password Recovery (yes / no bullet)

Opps, I think you might have mis-understood me... I was simply suggesting to make sure that if you change the password to make sure you also set the settings so that the user who is late on payment doesn't just change it back... Of course I might be the one mis-understanding...

If the feature is turned on (I'd forgotten it existed, because I don't use it) users will always be able to change their password. And it can only be turned on/off on a per-server level, so to use my method you'd have to leave it turned off.

I will say that we get password requests less than once a month, so I'd recommend not using it; the system is more secure without it.

But that's your decision.

Jeff

Although I believe you already pointed out why this function wouldn't be necessary, I also would like to add that more and more Content Management Systems are used. With those systems it'll still be very easily possible to edit the complete website without any need for FTP or DA connections.
