Another subdomain prob.

had a read through the subdomain problems on the forum, but my problem seems to be a cross between a few!!

I have a main domain - justahost.info.
I added the subdomain 'monitor'

I can access it using:

www.justahost.info/monitor
www.monitor.justahost.info

but NOT via:
monitor.justahost.info

Any ideas?
The DNS is:

mail A 72.36.219.98
monitor A 72.36.219.98
pop A 72.36.219.98
www A 72.36.219.98
www.monitor A 72.36.219.98

Thats just strange - I can only get to the www.monitor one :s

Will leave it until the morning I think and see whats happening.

Ah well - that was strange - all worked fine this morning.

Sorry for the extra post on the subdomain theme !!
 
I know this is an ancient thread, but I'm having a similar issue. (www.subdomain.domain.com works, but subdomain.domain.com does not)

From what I've read, I'll just need to wait a while, but I'm curious why the www.subdomain would begin resolving immediately, but subdomain. would take longer.
 
The reason can be guessed quite easily.

Before the DNS change could take place (it may take up to a minute), either the admin or someone else using the same nameservers have already tried to load the subdomain without "www.", storing a negative-cached non-existent domain record within their nameservers.

Then they try the same thing with "www." after a little while, and like magic this one works. :)

Finally they have to wait a few hours for the other one's cache to expire.

If the problem is not a negative-cached non-existent DNS record but a simple browser cache or local resolution caching, cleaning the cache or reloading with Ctrl+F5 will solve the problem.
