I've been testing to see why addresses with the aol.com and aim.com don't get sent. The only message I get from the mailserver is this:

2005-06-07 09:37:50 1DfjtV-0001bk-5t SMTP error from remote mailer after end of data: host mailin-01.mx.aol.com [64.12.137.89]: 421-: (DNS:NR) http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/421dnsnr.html\n421 SERVICE NOT AVAILABLE

Anybody have an idea what this means?

Thanks.

Got it...

I'm failing the reverse DNS lookup by AOL. I'll start searching the forum on where to add that record.

Adding the record yourself may not help you.

You haven't listed your domain or IP# so I can't be sure but most small hosting companies don't have reverse DNS allocated to them. You may have to ask your upstream provider.

Reverse DNS

You are absolutely correct. I added my own PTRs and noticed it didn't help. Then I noticed on the "dig" that my co-lo provider showed up. I made a quick call to them and they added my server in the RDNS record and AOL started accepting mail from my MTA.
