I was thinking of upgrading Apache from 1.3 to 2.0, should I wait or go ahead with the upgrade? I am not sure how DirectAdmin likes Apache 2.0.

Thanks

Bob,

Some folk might disagree with me, but my gut feeling is that updating apache isn't something you do just because you can.

Do you have any specific reasons to go from one current version of apache to another?

Some PHP scripts that work fine on 1.3 end up not working very well on 2.0 due to them being badly coded in the first place. If that is a potential issue for you then Google on it for more detail. I am not intimately familiar with the exact details myself, but a good friend who is running several Apache 2.0 servers was telling me about it. Something about badly coded PHP scripts causing memory leaks, depending on how you have Apache 2.0 configured. Oh yeah I just remembered, there is a "compatibility mode" which you can run Apache 2.0 in which will make the PHP scripts behave like they do on Apache 1.3 but by doing this you lose a lot of the new efficiencies built into Apache2.
