Apache not running any more

Since 00:00 are my websites down. I am using freeBSD 5.3 and did a 'portupgrade -a' last evening.
At this moment the /var/cron and other logs shows a continuously reboot of httpd processes.

When I analyze /var/messages, I see at 21:39 the following messages (however the server was not available after 00.00):
Apr 24 21:36:02 wes kernel: pid 86977 (ruby18), uid 0: exited on signal 6 (core dumped)

Any advice should be handfull. What did DA do after 00:00 and what is causing this problem?

Regards,

Mike

Did you upgrade anything with ports? Try rebuilding apache and php through customapache and starting it manually.

You mentioned this one ....

thank you, thank you ... very much. The system was running again inside 15 minutes. pfffffff...... :p :D

Additional question (for future)
Is there a small note/document/white paper with details on how to update FreeBSD using DA? On one side you are updating programs (using portupgrade), on the other side you are using the DA application. So, what is the procedure?

Thanks again for the quick answer...

I was reporting a second when I found out that this time it probably has to do with the network on the provider site. The first solution could be/is probably the correct solution,

Update 04:38 (a couple of hours later):
Websites came up normal after resolving (by provider) . Solution as described above was seperate from this second problem (at the problem above I could reach DA panel and ssh normally).

The way in which you maintain your servers is entirely up to you. You could for example scratch the entire customapache system and convert it over to your own system but at least for me that would be more work than was worth it.

You can upgrade the ports tree all you want but if your using customapache you will want to keep away from installing those from ports or any software which might have a "dependency" on one of those applications and attempt to install it for you.

There is this How-To on upgrading FreeBSD using cvsup which I have used without problems in the past.
