Hey all! Good day!

I have a few queries with regards to DA on a multi-server setup with regards to billing systems. Say I have 2 copies of DA running on 2 servers, so lets call them:

-Server 1 (1 reseller acct, with multiple users, which I use for closed hosting)
-Server 2 (1 reseller acct, with multiple users for public hosting)

I am looking to use AWBS (http://www.awbs.com/) on the Server 1, which i plan to do invoicing for both servers and manage accounts based on bill and payments. Will I be able to automatically create packages on both Server 1 and as well as Server 2 through the multi-server setup?

Do anyone here have any experiences with AWBS? I was looking at modern bill and Clientexec as alternatives.

For AWBS from what I read at the moment, it requires a separate license per server, for multi-setup (calling to one shared database). I won't be going for that as it's confirmed to be slow after feedback from current AWBS users on their forums. It's just too cumbersome to have a separate install for everybox I add as well.

So ideally, it will be best if the billing system can be left in one box to call to others in the cluster. Otherwise, if so do anyone here have any recommendations of a centralized billing system (on one server) which I can use for subsequent servers in my DA cluster?

AWBS will be able to do what you describe. So will ClientExec and WHMCS. Personally, I dislike the automated billing software that's out there and prefer to invoice clients.

Hi littleoak,

Haha ok, I get it, I do get fad up with automated systems esp when it comes to setting up once in a while, but that beats having to manually invoice accounts, so thats what I see the value in it. :o

;) Anyway, with all about automated systems that aside, so in other words, I can put it this way- I can have only one installation of AWBS on Server 1 (which I currently use to bill my closed hosting) and also can use that single install of AWBS to simply create accounts off Server 2 if a user chooses to signup for a package on my public hosting server.

The the thing which makes it all works will simply be the multi-server link within DA itself?

I think you misunderstand the DirectAmin multi-server function.

All the DirectAdmin multi-server function does is propagate DNS between servers. It doesn't in any way manage DirectAdmin across multiple servers.

With all the automated billing systems you have to set up a default server in the billing configuration for new clients to be set up on. With all your current clients you have to tell the billing system which server they are on. The is a servers configuration in which you tell the billing system what the DA server ip is, the username, and the password. The billing system simply connects to DA control panel (actually the api) to manage accounts.

So if client A is late paying you the billing system says ok client A is on server 5. Let's connect to DA on server 5 and suspend him.

The multi-server feature, as Jeff said, does not load balance or distribute accounts for you. It only shares DNS information between servers.

AWBS allows you to add multiple servers from within the program. It then chooses one of the servers to place the account on when an order is placed. You may set limits on how many accounts may be created per server. One installation of AWBS can manage as many servers as you like.
