Backup download file size inconsistency

Hi Folks,
I've been lurking for a while and found a few good solutions to problems with DirectAdmin, excellent forum. Thanks.

I've used the search (which is mostly my friend) but can't seem to find this specific problem.

I create a backup in DirectAdmin which is sized at 658MB. (.tar)

Clicking on the file launches the download to my local machine.

The process stops and claims to have finished downloading but I have a file of only 211MB.

Where has the other 447MB's gone?

Which file size is correct? do I have the whole backup file on the local machine now?

I've opened the .tar and there are *some* files there....

I've run the same download many times (explorer, firefox on XP and firefox on Vista) and the same thing occurs.

Hope someone has seen this before and can help, bit of a steep learning curve at the mo, kind of inhereted a whole DirectAdmin, PHP, Apache, Mysql floor show, which after five or so years of avoiding any hands on Admin/coding is a bit of a shock.

Thanks again.

Can you log in with FTP and check what file size it shows or through ssh rather then direct admin?

Thanks for the reply R1lover.

I tried to send FileZilla in to do just that, but I can't get a connection. I checked the Admin interface for FTP management and found a single unfinished account, no password or other settings.

So I tried to create another account granting me access but I get the message "Cannot create another FTP account" details "You have already reached your assigned limit".

Which, as I can't see any finished accounts, is a bit confusing.

I would contact your host with this issue and let them take a look.

Right, so you are suggesting this is more of a hosting issue than a DirectAdmin problem.

Would they limit downloads? Are there hundreds of FTP accounts lurking on some other part of the system?

Just what has the original developer done in there?

I'll get onto the host ASAP.
